George, this is a great article and considers part of wedding planning that the happy couple should not neglect. A controlling photographer can be a real nightmare. I attended a wedding at which the photographer insisted on taking hundreds of posed shots, monopolizing everyone's time. Posed shots are easy and they look . . . posed. A great photographer will of course get posed "safety" shots but the truly memorable moments are not posed or staged. It takes real skill and timing to capture real memories. As you say, that takes people skills. Oddly enough, the bold but friendly photographer becomes part of the scene until people begin to ignore the camera and start having fun. Then it's all about the artistic eye, composition, and making the most of a little luck. Ask to see a portfolio.
